8.         Project Details

Software Engineers based at Ramptec premises, Warrington carrying out PLC and SCADA software modification on various United Utilities sites to enable the upgrade of site PLC systems providing signals for the Real Time Dashboard (RTD) project.

This involved interfacing to existing PLC’s, modifying PLC software, troubleshooting and rectifying failing systems, interfacing to CHP systems to gather PPC data from Jenbacher DIANE and CompAp Intelisys controllers, interrogating existing PLC / SCADA systems.

The project involved programming of the following PLC systems and software packages: Siemens S7 ( Simatic manager), Allen Bradley (RS Logix 500), Siemens TI505 ( Softshop), Sattcon (DOX 5) and Gem 80 (Gemsys).

The following HMI / SCADA  packages were also used Siemens WINCC and FLEX, Siemens Protocol, RS View and Panelbuilder.

Key Challenges

 

Planning:  The work packages were fragmented with delays as a result. The impact of this was minimised by greater monitoring of resource allocation and liaison in advance with the client.

 

Other Issues: Allocation and retention of specialist resources. This was addressed by providing continuity on the project and full utilisation of resources.
